Details & Care
Dimensions: 14 x 18 cm ((approximately 5.5″ x 7″, without the wooden handle). The size is ideal for large tamagoyaki omelettes.
Pan thickness is 1.6 mm (0.06")
Material: Iron with silicone coating
Before First Use:
Wash gently with dish soap and a soft sponge, then season the pan – heat it with a little oil and sauté some vegetable scraps. The veggie tannins help create a protective oil layer.
Discard scraps and wipe the pan clean. Now you’re ready to cook!
Ongoing Care:
Hand wash only, with warm water and a soft sponge (no need for harsh soap).
Do not use steel wool or metal utensils, as they can scratch the iron.
After washing, dry the pan immediately and thoroughly to prevent any rust.
You can even heat it briefly on the stove to evaporate moisture, then rub a thin layer of oil on the surface before storing.
Usage Tips:
Always heat the pan before adding egg – a properly preheated and oiled iron pan will minimize sticking. Pour a thin layer of egg, roll, and repeat.
If at first a bit of sticking occurs, don’t worry. As the pan seasons, making tamagoyaki will only get easier.
Our favorite things about it
Authentic craft from Sanjo, Japan – this Japanese egg roll pan is made by artisans in a cityrenowned for metalwork, so it’s built to last.
Iron construction that improves with each use: the more you cook, the more naturally non-stick the surface becomes as a seasoned patina develops.
Slightly deeper rectangular body prevents spills, making it easier to roll omelettes without mess.
Compatible with gas, electric, ceramic, and induction stoves, so you can enjoy tamagoyaki on any cooktop. (Induction tip: iron heats quickly, so use medium heat to start.)

Quick to show wear and tear. Only used it for about 4 days. I used a wooden spoon or silicone utensil to cook with it but it scratches easily. I even hand wash this pan. Oh well, at least I gave this pan a try.
I have been so happy with this pan that I ordered another one for a friend. I have watched her try many other similar ones without being satisfied. She deserves the best so she is getting one for her birthday!
I also loved this pan for months, but it has now got a chip in the finish and I can see that it will not last very long. So I will get a cast iron pan without a coating. By the way the shipment from Kyoto arrived so fast I could not believe it!
I loved this pan at first, but the non-stick coating has worn off and it’s nearly unusable now. Everything sticks to it, and I have treated it with care every time I have used it.
I love this pan! I was able to make a nice tamagoyaki on my very first try, thanks to having this wonderful pan and the cooking chopsticks I ordered from Bento and Co. My eggs slid easily in the pan with no sticking, and the heat transfer on my electric stovetop was excellent. Another big plus is the expert help and communication from the team at Bento and Co, and shipping was fast and packed with care. I will return to the online store for more purchases in the future!
I have been wanting one of these lovely pans for a while. I have already made three omelettes in it in my learning how to fold them in the pan, and I love the ease of use of the pan. It's quality craftmanship. I use it for more than omelettes too but I do love the the fact that the surface of the pan is made with stopping eggs from sticking in mind.
I have wanted such an omelette pan for a long time and I am very glad that I was able to order an authentic Japanese one. I cooked on it with pleasure, thanks to Bento :)
The pan is fantastic. I wanted a lightweight tamagoyaki pan so cast iron was out, and I got tired of using and throwing out teflon pans after a year.
Also shipping was shocking fast--I think my order arrived in a few days from Kyoto! 大きに!
A pan of lovely quality. I followed the instructions to first cook vegetable scraps in the pan before use. I haven't had any problems with sticking and my egg rolls are delicious. I like to keep the pan on the stove at all times because I think it looks beautiful.
Ha! I love this pan. The eggs are so perfectly cooked, every single time. I will likely buy a spare in case something ever happens to this one. My favorite breakfast pan!
I didn’t know what to expect as a first time user but the quality of the pan was unbelievable. My husband was very impressed. It makes tamagoyaki extremely easy. Plus the pan is a piece of artwork.
This is a high quality omelette pan, and dealing with Bento & Co. was a total pleasure.
I do believe that the web page description of the pan is in error: The pan appears to be made of stamped steel, not cast iron. The web page photo correctly shows the pan as we received it. Perhaps there is a problem in Japanese to English translation?
Store owner replied:
Hi Chuck, Thanks for your review! The original description of this pan mistakenly listed the material as cast iron, when it should have been described as "iron with silicone coating". The description has now been updated. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Everything looks great- it is for a gift- so will see how they like it.
Great pan
This pan is overall great, heavy and sturdy, and made of good material. The eggs do not stick to the pan really (with a little oil of course) but also do not give that off texture of a nonstick pan.
Looks very well made
I just received mines today and it looks really well made. I'm very excited to use it! My only concern is that the instruction booklet is completely in Japanese and while the pictures give me an idea of what to avoid, I want to make sure I follow all the instructions to take good care of it. Is there any way to get English instructions?
