Originally created as toys for children in 19th-century Japan, Kokeshi dolls have since become cherished symbols of craftsmanship and emotion — simple in form, yet rich in meaning.
Handmade by the talented artisans of Usaburo Studio in Gunma Prefecture, each kokeshi begins as a block of mizuki wood, then carefully shaped, polished, and hand-painted with precision.
This elegant doll features a soft, rounded silhouette and a serene smile inspired by the Japanese proverb “Nana korobi, ya oki” (七転び八起き) — “Fall seven times, stand up eight.” It represents resilience and perseverance in the face of life’s challenges. The bright red kimono, adorned with white plum blossoms, adds a touch of springtime grace to this timeless figure.

Taxes & Customs Fees
As our products are shipped from Japan they may be subject to taxes and to customs fees in the country of delivery. These costs are the customer’s responsibility.
For our customers in the USA:
All packages will be subject to tariffs upon import at minimum 15%. Payment of this fees is compulsory; they will be billed to you by the carrier. Please get in touch with your local customs to know more.

Orders below $1000 AUD are regarded as 'low value imports' by Australian customs. As of 01 July 2018, customs duties may apply to any goods imported from overseas by consumers in Australia. For more information please visit the Australian customs website.

For our customers in the EU:
Bento&co is registered in the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS). As such, VAT is included in product pricing. Bento&co pays VAT fees directly to the authorities.
Orders with a total value less than €150 euros (excluding shipping fees) have duties added at checkout. You will therefore not have any additional costs to pay in order to receive your package. Please note: The IOSS system is reserved for purchases made by individuals. Do not include a company name in your delivery or billing address, or your package will be considered by the carrier as a commercial purchase and you will have to pay customs duties.
