The A Woman Playing A Poppin (Poppin o fuku musume) is a masterpiece by famous Ukiyo-e artist, Utamaro. Displayed in its entirety on this 48 cm cotton furoshiki, this composition showcases a beautiful young woman playing a simple glass instrument called a poppin. Her stunning kimono is scattered with cherry blossoms over a red and white checkered background, which clearly showcased the fashion amongst the upper middle-class families of the time (late 18th century).
