The Hinoki Onigiri Mold is a beautiful wooden kit to make medium sized (5.5cm / 2.2" tall) Japanese rice balls with ease and elegance.

About Hinoki Wood:

  • Hinoki is a type of Japanese cedar wood. It is known to have natural antimicrobial qualities and absorbs excess moisture from food, making it taste better.
  • Hinoki is used extensively for food containers, bento boxes (see our Magewappa bento boxes), and even traditional bathtubs.
Details & Care
  • How to use:
  • Rinse mold with water (prevents rice from sticking).
  • Pack Japanese short grain rice into the openings.
  • Make a shallow indentation in the center of the rice, and add a bit of filling of your choice (such as salmon, umeboshi, canned tuna with mayonnaise and soy sauce).
  • Cover with more rice, and press down firmly.
  • Carefully remove onigiri from mold and enjoy!

  • Dimensions: 17.2cm (6.7") x 7.5cm (2.9") x 3.4cm x 3.4cm (1.3")
  • Hand wash only. Do not soak in water for long periods of time. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after washing. Please don't use this as a cutting board for your bread, or you will damage the surface!
Our Favorite Things
  • Unlike most onigiri molds made from plastic, this one is made from Hinoki wood (Japanese cypress). Beautiful, fragrant and sustainable.
  • Made with care in Mie, Japan.
  • Includes solid wood rectangular block with two triangular openings and a base.
