A masterpiece by one of our favorite Japanese craftsmen, Mr. Hasehira, the Miyama Bento Box 406 | Kuri showcases the natural beauty of kuri, Japanese chestnut wood.
Kuri (chestnut) wood is found throughout Japan and has long been prized for its strength and resistance to moisture—qualities that once made it a preferred material for railroad construction. The mountain variety (yamaguri) is especially valued for furniture making and fine wood carving, thanks to its durability and rich grain.

Note: This particular box features yellow streaks visible on both the lid and the base (see photos). These variations are a natural characteristic of chestnut wood and have been intentionally preserved by the artisan as part of the material’s unique character.
