Kuniyoshi Ukiyo-e Furoshiki 48 cm | Cats Showing The Fifty Three Stations Of The Tokaido

SKU 20720-114

The Cats Showing The Fifty Three Stations of the Tokaido ( Sono mama jiguchi miyaukaikou gojiusanhikii) is considered to be a masterpiece.

The composition showcases fifty five cats engaging in a variety of activities, and uses Japanese world play to liken each cat to names of stations along the Tokaido- one of five major routes that connected Tokyo to outer provinces during Japan's Edo period. Originally created by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (one of the last great Ukiyo-e masters), this cotton furoshiki displays the work of art in its entirety.
