This beautiful Imari-yaki bowl from the Edo Era is in the Nishiki, or “brocade”-style of porcelain, characterized by the use of many colors of paint over the white glaze. Features breathtaking hand-painted designs in red, gold, and touches of green, in addition to the classic blue.

In the center of the bowl in cobalt blue is a dragon, protector of hidden treasures and symbolizing power, fertility and creativity in Japanese mythology.

On the outsides of the bowl, the mythical Sennin (mountain hermit immortals) are depicted, performing magic such as summoning animals out of drinking gourds or giving them the gift of flight.

The bottom of the bowl are the Chinese characters 長春富貴, an auspicious idiom wishing for a rich, noble and long life.

This bowl is perfect as a celebratory present or as a good-luck gift for you and your family that can be passed down as an heirloom.
