CONTEST RULES AND FAQ

I. Can I enter this contest?

The contest is free and open to all people over the age of 18 years. Participants must read the competition rules, terms and conditions, and agree to them.

II. Participation and General Principles

1. Theme  "INTERNATIONAL BENTO"

The theme of this year's annual Chef Bento Contest is International Food Bento! We would like to see a bento featuring international food! Why not make a bento starring favorite dishes from home? Just make sure we can clearly identify the country of origin from looking at your bento box!

Here are some rules for this contest:

  • The Bento must be for 1 person.
  • The bento box must be of one or two tiers maximum. No picnic or XL boxes allowed.
  • As we can't taste your bento, visuals are the single most important factor for assessment: your bento should be well presented and photogenic!
  • Submit 2 photos (no more, no less) featuring your completed International Bento!
  • 1 photo should include a country flag referencing the origin of the featured cuisine (the flag can be positioned anywhere in the photo; it doesn't have to be in the bento).
  • The second photo should be of the same bento, just without the country flag!

 2. Submitting your entry

  • Each contestant can enter only once (2 photos per person; 1 photo should include a physical country flag (not digitally added! Hand drawn flags are also accepted) referencing the origin of the featured cuisine (the flag can be positioned anywhere in the photo; it doesn't have to be in the bento). The other photo should be of the same bento, just without the country flag! )
  • All entries must be submitted via the entry form in order to be considered.
  • Please do not attach a watermark! By participating in the contest, the contestant agrees that the photos submitted for the contest can be utilized on Bento&co's website and related social media sites (online shops, blogs, social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

EVERYBODY IS A WINNER!

Every submission will receive a one-time 10% discount for the Bento&co website.

III. What are your recommendations to take the Best Picture?

Landscape or portrait format, it's up to you as long as your bento comes across at its very best!  Make sure we can see the food inside. No need to add some decoration around your box such as flowers or objects, the content of your Bento and the presentation is the only aspect that will be judged. If you can place your box on a plain background (table/furoshiki) it would be great! Furthermore, the lighting is also very important (taking your picture in a dark room is not a very good idea). Morning light is often the best :)

Please remember to not use watermarks or logos on your photos, as this will render your entry invalid!

IV. My bento is ready! I’m going to add my watermark/logo to this great picture!

Please don't! In accordance with the contest rules, the photos may be utilized afterwards on Bento&co site and related social media. No worry though, we're not going to forget your work and will definitely credit all photos.
