Domo Kun Sushi Bento
Today’s sushi art roll (kazarimaki-sushi) is special, because I created this design! My own original (^-^)
The character is Domo-kun!
And I made a pair of them! The brown Domo-kun and the pink Domo-kun, they kind of looks like a couple right?
Do you know Domo-kun? He is the official mascot of NHK broadcasting station in Japan. I love the large mouth of Domo-kun, the expression tickles me.
I arranged the sushi rice to form the different parts to complete the white teeth and the red part of the mouth.
I also created/rolled the eyes from kanpyo and seaweed, and shaped the sushi to form Domo-kun's shape.
I also divided the sushi rice into 2 parts, the pink and brown so that I can get 2 sushi pieces of pink Domo-kun and 2 sushi pieces brown Domo-kun from the single sushi art roll.
The side dishes for today's bento were grilled salmon fillet, dashimaki tamago, lettuce, cherry tomatoes and cucumber.
If you like non-plastic bento boxes like mine, check out here.
Ingredients
-
Brown Domo kun (rice, tuna flakes, teriyaki sauce, red deco furikake, kanpyo)
-
Pink Domo kun (rice, pink sushi seasoning, red deco furikake, kanpyo)
*furikake is a type of Japanese rice topping
*kanpyo is seasoned gourd strips
Sushi making is too difficult? Here are some of my other Domo-kun bento creations to give you more ideas! You can create Domo-kun simply from rice balls since the shape is quite simple - basically a roundish rectangular shape.

Hello :) I am Shirley, a bento artist/chef and blogger. I started making bento back in 2011 as getting lunch was very inconvenient at work, and in 2012 my blog, Little Miss Bento was born. Bento making is a passion that I am fond of, and excited about. My head is often bursting with ideas on what to make. Even when I visit the supermarkets, I often imagine what I can make out of an ingredient or food product. Character bentos are my forte, but I also enjoy making usual bento lunches, bread, sweets and other decorative food items. If you like kawaii and and fun creations, I am sure you will enjoy my blog postings. I will continue to do my best and thanks for staying with me. |
