Kazarimaki-sushi (Sushi Art Rolls)
Wanted to share with you that I am so happy to have completed the kazarimaki sushi instructor certification in Tokyo! Do you know what is kazarimaki-sushi?
Kazarimaki-sushi is sushi art roll. The sushi is designed and rolled in such a way that characters/things are created by the precise portioning and placement of the rice and ingredients.
They are perfect for character bentos! And they are definitely a crowd-pleaser at parties or special occasions. I have made quite a number of kazarimaki sushi bento since I first picked up this skill about one year ago. Here are two of my creations!
Let me know what you think of these (^-^) The banana sushi art roll is my own original creation, one of my favorite creations!
To start sushi making, in addition to a good rice cooker, it would be good to have a sushi roller and a good kitchen knife. Be patient, the sushi art rolls looks a little harder than it seems but it will get much easier and faster with more training and practice!
Shirley - Bento specialist, Singapore
Hello :) I am Shirley, a bento artist/chef and blogger. I started making bento back in 2011 as getting lunch was very inconvenient at work, and in 2012 my blog, Little Miss Onigiri was born. Bento making is a passion that I am fond of, and excited about. My head is often bursting with ideas on what to make. Even when I visit the supermarkets, I often imagine what I can make out of an ingredient or food product. Character bentos are my forte, but I also enjoy making usual bento lunches, bread, sweets and other decorative food items. If you like kawaii and and fun creations, I am sure you will enjoy my blog postings. I will continue to do my best and thanks for staying with me.
