A balan or baran is a small piece of plastic film or other material that are used in a bento box to keep certain foods separate from each other, to prop up wobbly foods, or just to add a splash of color. You may be familiar with balan already as 'sushi grass' in takeout sushi boxes. 

Balan Animal consists of 2 packets of adorable animal shaped balan, in 8 different designs including a panda, pig, monkey and bear - for a total of 16 balan. They are perfect for decorating a bento box, or for keeping the flavors of different foods from mingling. Balan Animal balans are microwave safe (maximum 600W for 3 minutes) so you can heat up your bento box! With care, these balan can be washed and re-used several times.
